Product Review | Marc Jacobs Lolita Palette

Monday 4 May 2015

This beautiful baby was gifted to me for my birthday from my lovely friend Kim. I'd never really paid much thought to Marc Jacobs products because as far as I know they're only available at Sephora, however when I saw this palette I fell in love.

For starters, the packaging is beautiful. The palette comes in a cute little dustbag/sleeve inside the box, which could come in handy for protecting the palette from scratches if you were to take it traveling, and inside the palette is a plastic overlay. The palette itself is also lovely and sleek, however it has a decent amount of weight to it (unlike Hourglass packaging), which gives off a very quality, luxurious feel.

The quality of the eyeshadows is impeccable - the matte shades are incredibly smooth and buttery, and the shimmer shades are nice and pigmented. The only one that's a bit tricky to work with is the glittery shade in the middle because it tends to leave a lot of fallout if you're not careful.

The shades are all beautiful, easy to wear neutral colours with a good mix of textures. The only thing missing is a medium brown colour - the dark brown in this palette is very dark and quite cool toned, so if you use it to deepen the crease, you're basically guaranteed to end up with a dark smokey eye. This isn't a huge issue though because that shade works great as an eyeliner or smoked out along the lashline, it's just not my go-to shade for deepening up the crease or outer v.

As you can see from the swatches, the third shade from the top is a pearlescent, almost duo-chrome pink/gold. It looks absolutely beautiful when swatched but I haven't yet figured out a way to wear it on the eyes that does it justice.

Pros:

  • Beautiful packaging
  • Good quality product
  • Extremely pigmented and blendable
  • Wearable, neutral colours

Cons:

  • Pricey
  • Difficult to obtain in Australia
  • Limited shades (missing medium brown and maybe some darker shimmers)

Overall I think this palette is beautiful, high quality and luxurious - I think it would make a great present or addition to an already established collection, however if you're new to makeup and looking for a neutral palette, I'd say there are plenty of other neutral palettes there with a better variety of shades that cost a lot less.

Hopefully this post was helpful!
